A juvenile Owlbear cub is a bizarre yet powerful monster you can obtain in the story’s opening Act, out of all the potential friends you can add to your party in Baldur’s Gate 3.
However, before you can recruit it, this bear-owl hybrid assaults you with its mother. Those seeking a relationship with this powerful and renowned Dungeons & Dragons creature must first gain its trust.
Your group can find the Owlbear Nest in the southern sections of the Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3 to the northeast of the Blighted Village. When you enter the nest, a short cutscene will play, culminating to an interaction between you and a fully fledged Owlbear.
Whether your character fights the beast or not, the mother of the cub in this nest dies, either at the hands of you or a troop of goblins.

How To Recruit The Owlbear Cub in BG3
After the mother Owlbear dies, take a lengthy rest or two before heading to the NPC Krolla in the Goblin Camp, where the cub can be purchased with Gold or won in Chicken-Chasing games.
