The first entry in the Atelier franchise, Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg, was released on the PlayStation 1 before being ported to the Sega Saturn, PC, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and mobile platforms. The title character is the poorest in her class and is on the verge of failing, but she’s offered a chance to pass if she can create an amazing item within five years after earning her own Atelier.
The gameplay includes the same components that future entries will have, such as gathering ingredients, interacting with townspeople, and fighting battles. Of course, there are distinctions, and the next version looks to be experimenting.
Aside from basic improvements and new character events, the remake will include a new Unlimited Mode that will let players “play at a more relaxed pace,” abolishing the time constraint. There will also be new character events. The Digital Deluxe Edition will also include the Atelier Marie Plus: The Alchemist of Salburg, Gust Extra BGM Costume Set, and “Another Look” Costume Set.
The director of Koei Tecmo Games, Yuuki Katsumata, said that Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg will take 10 hours to complete. Unfortunately, he doesn’t say if this figure refers to working on side material as well as the core plot. But according to players of the original game and resources like How Long to Beat, completing the game’s main objectives alone took about 5 hours, and engaging in extra material added another 5 or so.
In light of this, it’s possible that this 10-hour estimate just represents how long the typical player will spend playing the game, including some side material but not necessarily on a completionist level. Furthermore, it’s important to keep in mind that this remake will take liberties and include additional character events, which might in some cases lengthen the gameplay.
