Baldur’s Gate 3 How to Get to Baldur’s Gate

Did you know that Baldur’s Gate 3 is named after a city in the game? Assuming you’ve completed the first few tasks, of course you do, because every character in the first few quests wants to meet you at Baldur’s Gate. But after playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for 20, 30, or even 50 hours, you may be wondering if you’ll ever make it to the large city.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get into Baldur’s Gate

It should come as no surprise that the city named after the game, Baldur’s Gate, is featured in Act 3. But first, these are the major “milestones” you’ll need to cross to get there. Minor spoilers follow.

You’ll first come across a sign that says “Baldur’s Gate” in Act 2 while you’re in the shadow-cursed plains. But simply driving along the highway isn’t an option. To make the path accessible, you’ll need to attack Moonrise Towers and the center of its operations. That means finishing the Moonrise Tower action and leaving Act 2 and the shadow-cursed areas behind.

You’ll arrive at Rivington, the settlement outside of Baldur’s Gate, in Act 3. To go to Lower City (which is merely the outer ring of Baldur’s Gate), you must first pass through the South Span Checkpoint. To get past the South Span Checkpoint, you’ll need to pay, sneak, or enlist the aid of the Ironhand gnomes.

But even this is not enough. Once you’ve passed through the checkpoint, you’ll need a pass to enter the Lower City. You’ll need to obtain a Lower City pass to do so.

Once in Lower City, you’ll notice a massive entrance labeled Baldur’s Gate. There will even be a waypoint called Baldur’s Gate, hinting that you would be traveling to the city’s center. And you will… on the last assignment. Normally, there is no way to get through those doors.

Yeah. It’s natural to be perplexed and disappointed. Much of the pre-release information suggested that we will be able to visit the Upper City. However, it appears that this footage was left on the cutting room floor. Nonetheless, Lower City has a lot to offer! As in murders! So many murders to investigate and much wealth to be had.
