Baldur’s Gate 3 is brimming with friends you can add to your team, and as we all know, there’s no buddy quite like a dog. Scratch is discovered early in Baldur’s Gate 3 right outside the Blighted Village and along the Risen Road.
The unfortunate pupper’s human is definitely dead, lying on the ground. Scratch can be added to your squad, but you must be careful and select your conversation carefully so as not to harm the poor fella’s feelings.

Where to find Scratch in BG3
Scratch can be found northwest of the owlbear nest, northeast of Blighted Village, and south of Risen Road. He’ll be circling around his master’s bloodied body. Interacting with him will be much simpler if you have a Potion of Animal Speaking, and you will immediately understand that Scratch is in denial about his owner’s death.
How to recruit Scratch in BG3
There are a few methods to persuade Scratch to join you, but the trick is not to be too pushy. He is mourning the death of his owner, and you must make it plain to him that you want him to join you. At the same time, it is critical that you stay respectful to his fallen lord, or he may become hostile.
Scratch was clearly in denial about his master’s death and assumed he was asleep when I spoke with him. I decided to be kind to him and do a Perception check to see whether his name was on his collar.
Using his name helps you win his trust. He won’t want to leave his master during this contact, so just be nice to him and tell him to follow your smell and meet up with your camp if his owner doesn’t wake up.
Scratch will want to grab your attention and have a ball in his mouth after a few extended breaks. Take that ball and throw it across camp as Scratch will pick up the ball and return it to your inventory whenever you throw it.
That’s how to get Scratch in Baldur’s Gate 3 as I’ll see you in the next guide.
