How to get parry in Mortal Shell?

First things first, to use the parry and to perform it in Mortal Shell, you first need to unlock the ability and get it in your hand.

You can easily get this ability when you meet the Old Prisoner in Fallgrim Tower. This tower is located near the first Sester, which is like a checkpoint in the game. You can find and get this as soon as you start the game after the tutorial.

Once you go through the open door and locate the Sester, try to climb the stairs and then meet the Old Prisoner. The first time you converse with him, you can gain the ability to counterattack enemy strikes.

How to use Parry in Mortal Shell

To use a parry, you first need to press the L1 or LB button, depending on your console. Time it right so that the seal you use to parry starts flashing. You have done it right when you hear a loud noise around you, and the enemy staggers. Then, press the R1 or RB button to perform the important riposte attack.

In the game, most enemies have clear cues before they start attacking, and the timing for parrying is more about timing the attack than compared to other games. A point to note is that using Hardening at the right moment can help you to use failed parry abilities.

Eventually, if you defeat bosses and get back to the Old Prisoner, you can also get three other types of parries in the game. Even though the uses of other parries are also the same, each one can have a distinct effect on enemies.

One restores a good amount of your HP, another attaches a sticky bomb to the parried enemy, and the last releases a powerful attack with a shockwave that can hit other enemies. You can switch between these three by pressing the Triangle or Y button.

To use these moves properly, you have to use Resolve, which you gather by attacking enemies and which is represented by the yellow bars above your health.

Even though you can use it without doing so much technical stuff and can parry without Resolve, you won’t be able to follow up with a special attack in your future journey. So, use your parry wisely in the game.
