The amorphous blob Ditto made its Pokemon Go debut in 2016. It has since been a challenge for collectors each year, changing appearances and rarely appearing in the wild. As of July 2023, the Transform Pokemon has a Spawn Rate of 2% and a Base Catch Rate of 20%.
Step 5 of “A Mythical Discovery” Special Research and Step 3 of “Let’s GO, Meltan” Special Research requires trainers to ‘Catch a Ditto.’ Rewards for both are 2500 XP and 1500 XP, respectively.
Ditto is also useful in defending or attacking Gym because it can transform into the opponent’s Pokemon and copy its moves, perks, and combat power.
The best way to catch a Ditto is by knowing its every disguise. Catch as many Pokemon mentioned below to increase the chances of encountering the mimic ‘mon. This will require a lot of Pokeballs and even Berries so better be prepared before going hunting.
Pokemon Go Ditto disguises (July 2023)
The list of disguises for Ditto was changed on March 21, 2023. Currently, the Normal-type, Generation 1 Pokemon can possibly be either of the following:-
- Diglett
- Grimer
- Snubbull
- Starly
- Corphish
- Roggenrola
- Tympole
- Litleo
Pokemon Go players can trade a Ditto but it won’t count towards any ‘Catch a Ditto’ task. While trying to catch it in the wild, make the best use of Incense and Lure Modules. Aim for an excellent curveball capture on every Pokemon in the Ditto disguise list.
Can Ditto be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Shiny Ditto was released by Niantic in 2021 during the Season of Mischief and it is obtainable in the current Hidden Gems Season. Catching either of the shiny variants of the aforementioned Pokemon isn’t a way to obtain Shiny Ditto though. It can only be caught by capturing non-shiny versions of the listed ‘mons.
Shiny Ditto is light blue in color compared to the original Ditto’s purple appearance. If catching a Ditto in disguise wasn’t rare enough, finding a shiny variant has 1/64 odds. It is one of the most elusive creatures in the game but there are a few distinguishing features about it. More details here.
