To unlock it, you must complete two side quests from Deek, the house elf inside the Room of Requirements. These quests are ‘Plight of the House Elf’ and ‘Charles Rockwood’s Trial.’

Once you complete them, you’ll also need to complete the main quest – The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom – This would unlock the Nab-Sack to capture the beast, which you would breed in the breeding pen.

Once you complete these tasks, Deek will ask you to follow him to learn about breeding, leading you to the next quest – Foal of the Dead. This exciting quest involves catching a male and female Thestral from their Beast Den in the East North Ford Bog.

If you agree to these quests, you’ll get a map, and Deek will ask you to purchase a breeding pen from Tomes and Scrolls, costing you 1,000 Galleons.

If you successfully capture the Thestrals, you will return to the Room of Requirement, where you’ll learn how to use the breeding pen in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Use the Breeding Pen in Hogwarts Legacy

Although unlocking the pen can be tedious, learning how to use the breeding pen in Hogwarts Legacy is pretty straightforward. Once you’re back to the Room of Requirements, Deek will ask you to go ahead and assemble the pen. You’ll then wonder aloud where would be best.

Luckily, the Room of Requirements is there to help you out. With a swirl of motions, the room of requirements will immediately create a new vivarium with a swamp biome. This new vivarium would be perfect for breeding the captured thestrals.

You can then enter this area and place the breeding pen wherever you want. Release the male and female thestrals into the pen and choose them as the species you would like to breed using the signs outside the breeding pen.

All players have to do now is wait 30 minutes, and a baby thestral will emerge. Groom and feed your baby thestral and then proceed to speak to Deek, so you can complete the quest. Once the quest is complete, you can use the breeding pen to breed various magical creatures. All you need is a male and female from the same species.

What Beasts Can You Breed?
