Why Doesn’t Hogwarts Legacy Have Any Storylines for Other NPCs?

Hogwarts Legacy is the ultimate roleplaying game for witches and wizards. It’s an excellent choice for Harry Potter fans who have always dreamed of being a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In this game, you can explore Hogwarts and its surrounding areas, brew potions, learn spells and fight dark wizards. Despite being a fantastic game with many adventures and an exciting storyline, this game leaves much to be desired.

One of the top complaints of payers is that Hogwarts Legacy NPCs do not have a storyline of their own. Even though the game keeps players busy with many quests and collectibles, the magical experience is marred by the lacklustre NPCs.

In this article, we’ll explore why most Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t have storylines; let’s dive into it.

Why Most NPCs in Hogwarts Legacy Don’t Have Storylines

Apart from a few NPCs like Poppy, Sebastian, Professor Fig, and others, most NPCs stay still and silent throughout the game. While walking around the school, you might hear some passing comments sometimes.

However, for the most part, the NPCs are practically quiet, and you can’t interact with them in any form, not even for a generic dialogue.

This can quickly become off-putting, but it’s unclear why this is. While it’s understood that they are filler characters and unimportant to the plot, there’s no indication that they’re real living students.

One reason why Hogwarts Legacy NPCs might not have storylines of their own is possible because of an upcoming DLC. It’s common for developers to exclude content from a base game and only provide it to players who pay for the premium version. However, this is all just speculation, and there might be no improvement on NPCs in the DLC.

Why Main Characters Could Do with More Friends in Hogwarts Legacy

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll agree that Hogwarts legacy got it right on most counts. However, players don’t exactly enjoy an immersive experience in the game.

At the core of the game, players lack companionship in the game. While players will meet dozens of students while exploring Hogwarts and surrounding areas, none will leave you with a lasting impression.

Hogwarts Legacy could have extensively benefited from a companion system akin to Harry, Hermoine, and Ron’s relationship in the book. Something similar to the companion system in Fallout, where you can get to know some NPCs and go on adventures with them, would be an excellent idea.

As Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player game, a companion system would make the game feel less lonely. Overall, the Hogwarts Legacy NPCs are limited in the storylines, and the few who are quite active will only show up periodically when they need your help.

Final Thoughts

It’s clear that something is missing in this game, and that’s a storyline for other Hogwarts Legacy NPCs. Rather than walking up to random players and asking them how they need your help throughout the game.

A storyline for NPCs would be great, and players should have the experience of exploring friendships with other students in Hogwarts. Rather than put NPCs on the shelf till they’re needed for quests, Hogwarts Legacy developers can integrate them more in combats and during exploration to make the game even more exciting.
