Pokemon Go Sierra Counters July 2023

Pokemon Go Sierra Counters: Taking down Team GO Rocket Leader Sierra is a formidable challenge. Not only does her Pokemon have a higher CP than the trainer but also they are Shadow-boosted. Sierra’s lineup changes after each Team Go Rocket Takeover and following the event spanning June 21-25, her strengths and weaknesses have changed.

In order to fight Sierra in Pokemon Go, trainers need to first collect six Mysterious Components by defeating Team Go Grunts. Six Mysterious Components combine to form a Rocket Radar that can be used to locate Team Go Leaders on the map. There are three in total: Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra, led by their leader – Giovanni.

Team Go Grunts hint at the Pokemon types they will use before the battle. Trainers adjust their battle party accordingly. However, they have difficulties with Team Go Rocket Leaders as they have a combination of highly-developed Pokemon types.

Pokemon Go Sierra Phase 1: Shadow Geodude

Siera’s first Pokemon is always Geodude. For the best start, use a strong and speedy Pokemon with low TTFA to burn through the opponent’s shields. This will leave the other stronger CP Pokemon exposed to damaging Charged Attacks.

Geodude is a dual Ground/Rock-type Pokemon. It is less effective against Fighting, Ground, Ice, and Steel-type types while being vulnerable to Grass and Water-type attacks. Given below is a mix of legendary/non-legendary ‘Mons and movesets which are guaranteed to succeed against Sierra’s Geodude.

  • Torterra: Razor Leaf (Grass) with Frenzy Plant (Grass) or Stone Edge (Rock)
  • Swampert: Mud Shot (Ground) with Hydro Cannon (Water) or Earthquake (Ground)
  • Kyogre: Waterfall (Water) with Surf (Water) or Origin Pulse (Water)
  • Rhyperior: Mud Slap (Ground) with Rock Wrecker (Rock) or Surf (Water)
  • Vaporeon: Water Gun (Water) with Hydro Pump (Water) or Aqua Tail (Water)

Pokemon Go Sierra Phase 2: Shadow Steelix, Shadow Gardevoir, or Shadow Sableye

Here’s when the battle gets tricky. Sierra’s choices for the second Pokémon unusually varied so picking a correct counter becomes important. Gardevoir is vulnerable to Ghost, Poison, and Steel but the same moves do half damage to Sableye and Steelix.

It is thus recommended to use specific all-rounders to counter anything Sierra throws at you in the second stage. Note that Fairy types in the battle party would be risky. Learn all the type advantages and disadvantages to select the correct move during battle.
