Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to sync their save data across platforms, and the game will sometimes cross-save your data to the game’s cloud services during your playing. However, every now and then, your save file may be trapped in the cloud, leaving you to worry whether all of your hard work was for naught. Here’s how to repair the BG3 stuck Syncing Cloud Save problem.
While the game is attempting to cross-save your data between platforms, a line of text in the top left-hand corner of your screen will appear: “Syncing Cloud Save.” Normally, this text would display and then vanish, but a problem allows the cloud save to become locked in a loop. You won’t be able to save your game or load a previous save while this is occurring, and if you exit the game, you may lose all of your data.
How To Solve the Syncing Cloud Save Bug in BG3
If you’ve encountered the Syncing Cloud Save bug, follow these steps:
- Open the game menu and select “Settings.”
- Scroll down to the last row of the Save Options section
- Turn off cross-save, and then turn it back on.
- Exit the menu and wait for the Syncing Cloud Save to complete.
- Repeat the process until the game finally saves
It may take a few attempts before the system will really save. When I originally tried this solution, I had to turn the cross-save option on and off three times before it worked. I also recommend waiting a few seconds for the cross-save to finish before returning to the Settings window.
If the above approach doesn’t work for you, some people have claimed success by exiting the game after deactivating Cross-Save, but be warned: this will erase all progress you’ve made since the last save. Before exiting, it’s a good idea to try to initiate an autosave. When you resume the game, you should utilise the local save file rather than the cloud save.
If you don’t want to play on other devices, you can disable Cross-Save permanently after the glitch is fixed. However, until you’ve encountered this problem an intolerable amount of times, we’d recommend leaving it on.
