The assignment requires you to simultaneously acquire and utilize one venomous tentacula and a mandrake. Both of these plants are available at the Dogweed and Deathcap shop in Hogsmeade.

Once you visit this shop north of Hogsmeade, you can use one and then use the other immediately by going to your tools menu. You can purchase and grow their seeds if you don’t have enough coins for the plants.

However, this could prove tedious because you need a small pot for the mandrakes and a big pot for the venomous tentacula. Note that you can only access Professor Garlick’s first assignment after you complete Sebastian’s Quest ‘In the Shadow of the Undercroft.’
