For instance, if you using the Ashes of War: Determination for this you need to use a weapon like Axes or Hammer to get full potential damage output. If you’re using the sword with this spirit’s ashes then it will not work at its full potential.
In order to use the Ashes of War in Elden Ring, firstly you need to get your hands on Whetstone Knife after that you can use the Ashes of War with it.
Where to find Whetstone Knife in Elden Ring
In the early stage of the Elden Ring, you can obtain the Whetstone Knife you can find it on the Gatefront Ruins in Limgrave you will find it in the chest as shown in the below image. In the chest, you will find the Knife with Ash of War: Storm Stomp.
After obtaining it make sure need to activate it on the Site of Grace you can head in the north direction where you find it.
How To Find the Ashes of War in Elden Ring
In Elden Ring, there are lots of ashes of war the total number is 64 and you can get them in the same way. Some ashes of war can be obtained by defeating the boss such as a bloody slash to get it you need to defeat the Godrick Knight.

Duplicate the Ashes of War
In Elden Ring, you can also duplicate the Ashes of War that you prefer to use mostly in the game means you can use it with multiple weapons.
The duplication process can be done by the blacksmith but before that, you need to get the Lost Ashes of War because it’s needed for the duplicating the ashes of war.
You can find the Lost Ashes of War in the Lands Between in the Elden Ring. You can get it from the serval merchant in that area for heavy cost. Following are the merchant that sold the Lost Ashes of War.
Isolated Merchant (Weeping Peninsula’s): You can find this NPC merchant in the Weeping Peninsula’s and you can purchase the Lost Ashes of War from it for 3000 Runes.
Isolated Merchant (Liurnia’s): You can find this Isloated Merchant at Main Academy Gate near Raya Lucaria Academy. You can get Lost Ashes of War from it for 4000 Runes.
Nomadic Merchant (Ainsel River’s): You find this merchant at Ainsel River and it sell the Lost Ashes of War for 3000 Runes.
